The amount of hours you put into building the perfect team for an upcoming project can be a costly endeavor. The process of team building requires recruiting, interviewing and hiring the right candidate for each particular role in the project.
Picking the right candidates will determine the outcome of the project; a team must be able to work well together. If there is a member of the team who is not performing in the most efficient manner; the group will become less productive.
Establishing Group Objectives
Each team member must be made aware of what is expected of them as the project moves forward.
The assigned roles within the team will aid in keeping productivity running in a smooth and efficient manner. When employees do not know their role within the group the team will struggle to meet prearranged benchmarks or set objectives.
The end of the project is the ultimate goal. When the team is beginning to move forward to the end goal, smaller goals should be set.
The smaller goals will help in determining the overall effectiveness of the team. As a manager, setting smaller goals can help in measuring the success of the progress of the team. Employees will strive to meet the smaller goals which help in the team’s productivity toward the ultimate end goal.
Failure to meet a goal can help determine if a workflow or other procedures needs to be analyzed for improvement measures.
The project may be a larger endeavor than previously determined. If the team is struggling to meet goal, the initial team building process may need to be evaluated for the future success of the project. Additional members may need to be incorporated into the team.
The project may need a task completed by an employee who has a completely different skill set not previously considered during the team building process. Bringing in another employee with the specific skill set can help in keeping the project moving forward.
If the team struggles, the project will lose momentum causing loss of productivity and low morale.
The Personal Element
Candidates may have the best attributes needed for the project; working together as an effective team may be a struggle especially in the beginning. As a manager, you want everyone to be able to work well together on a personal level.
When the group works well together in an efficient manner, your team building process was a success. You can evaluate the productivity of the team by analyzing the completed work. Work should be done in a timely manner in order to save money.
